Hi, I updated my channel list but now box is stuck on 'load'. I have searched the forum and found this: 1.Connect your RS232 LEAD to the SKYBOX F3 2.Now select corresponding port on the erom software.
3.Press upgrade & select the skybox f3.abs enclosed in the erom folder. 4.Switch off the SKYBOX F3 at the rear of the box. 5.Now press 'NEXT' then turn the box on at the back you will now see 'Com Port OK and the blue bar start to fill up' 6.The loader will now start loading slowly. (allow the firmware time to load even if it hangs at the end wait for completion and it will reboot once completed) If it fails to start loading, turn the box off via the rear power switch & again press 'NEXT' then turn the reciever back on,it may take several times before the box starts to load the firmware.

I know I am on the correct port, but after hitting NEXT, all I have is 'Synchronising STBs.Please reset target'. I am getting no further than this, Can anyone help please? Stacey, try doing the first few steps with the box turned off. When i was getting the message 'Synchronising STBs.Please reset target' that i when i put the power on my STB, just to the right of the message it should say 'Done' almost immediately. Then just wait a few seconds and the firmware should start loading, it takes a while to get to 100%. After this you click next and the firmware burns to the box. Doesnt take long.

I turned off auto install drivers and uninstalled the drivers it automatically installed, Then I installed the teensy and ftdi drivers, Turned off auto on the com ports in cura and tried every single baud rate all getting the same result. After setting the port, you can open it in read-only (r/o), write-only (w/o), or read-write (r/w) mode using the open method. Note: The serial port is always opened with exclusive access (that is, no other process or thread can access an already opened serial port). Use the close method to close the port and cancel the I/O operations.
Hope that helps, I was using F5S that was stuck on 'LOAD' but procedure should be the same.

The Programme Editing Tool was what led me to brick my F3 and I have warned against others using it! Fortunately I quickly unbricked it and the procedure is the same for you. Have a look at the relevant Thread in this very sub-Forum (and possibly a few others therein), but basically you will need a Null Modem Cable USB to Serial Cable (About £1 from eBay), a PC with a Serial Port (Using a USB converter is known not to be successful), a copy of Firmware dated prior to the one already loaded (You can upgrade again once it's up and running) and a recovery package to be found widely across the Internet, called eromupgrade8Mflash. It's a straightforward process already detailed in this part of the Forum, and in the ReadMe file that comes with the fix, so I'm not going to post it again in detail - just do a bit of reading, be confident, and give it some wellie. AND NEVER AGAIN USE THE EDITOR!!!!!

Exactly as Tivu states. The first F5 I bought came with a defective PSU. After the first 15 minutes it decided to die, assuming the adapter sent a spike/surge to the recveiver. The thing wouldn't come on and the front display was totally blank.
The seller explained that one way to determine if it's recoverable is to plug an ethernet cable from a router into it. If the rj45 socket lights flicker or just light up then it's still got life in it and requires the serial flash. The F3/M3/F5 eeprom tool is compatible with all 3 receivers. It took me a few tries but be patient. It also worked first time on win 7 for me (crappy spare pc).
Just have a look at the ReadMe file that comes with the repair tool. Text reproduced below (The spelling and other errors are not mine!) IIRC, they are correctly set by default, though. Finally, these were written for the F3, but the F5 uses the same Firmware.
