Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study collected 165 patients over 65 years (≥ 65 years) admitted consecutively to the area of General Internment and Coronary Care Unit in the Hospital Universitario Austral, Pilar, from January to June 2016. To assess the nutritional status was performed the MNA® -SF tool was used. Data of weight, height, age and the result of nutritional screening on admission (MUST) were obtained from the clinical history of the institution (Pectra Digital Gate®) Results: of all patients 41.8% were females and 58.2% males.
The age range was 65-95 years, with an average 73 years (SD 6.4). The average weight was 77.6 kg (SD 15.2). The average height 1.70m (SD 0.1).
The average BMI was 27.5 kg/m2 (SD 4.4). The results showed that the percentage of patients at risk of malnutrition was 38.1% and 10.9% were malnourished. Patients at risk detected by the MUST still represented only 6%.

Mental Health And Sense Of Touch In Old Age ABSTRACT Patient hospitalized in a geriatric institution, where his behavior starts a process leading ultimately to his death. Re-examination of the case generates questions about the kind of assistance given to elderly patients and shows the need to keep bioethical principles in the therapeutic activity. The course of events is drawn from the clinical history and the interviews done by the professionals that audited the institution. The incidents that precipitated the outcome covers a period of two years, from the first hospitalization in a municipal hospital, until the transfer to a geriatric institution, with successive re-hospitalizations before death. The study shows the importance of emotional and affective factors associated with the disease, which in this case does not appear to be adequately understood nor cared, as well as the ethical obligation to safeguard the dignity of people.
In similar situations, they take into account the recommendation of the 41º World Medical Assembly´s to prevent elderly abuse (Hong Kong, 1989; Israel, 1990 and France, 2005). Keywords: Bioethical principles – patient rights – care provision – elderly abuse. Hypothyroidism In The Elderly ABSTRACT Overt and subclinical hypothyroidisms are common disorders in older people, especially women. If undiagnosed and untreated, it´s associated with significant morbidity. Factors that favor to sub-diagnosis are: the physiological changes of aging, concomitant and polypharmacy.
Since treatment can offer a better quality of life for patients, we must be attentive to subtle symptoms for early diagnosis. The indication for treatment of clinical hypothyroidism is clear; however, it doesn´t stand true to the subclinical disease. There isn´t scientific evidence that treatment is associated with a reduction in mortality in the elderly. Strict monitoring of thyroid function may be the best option for those patients with high risk to the progression of the clinical disease. There are no specific guidelines about timing and dosage to start hormone replacement in the elderly. In clinical practice, it´s norm to start with low doses, evaluate cardiovascular tolerance and gradually increase the dose accordingly, after plasma thyrotropin (TSH) controls. This paper attempts to clarify this everyday clinical situation, through a review of the clinical evidence available.
